About ChinaGuide
A practical sourcing guide built by someone who has walked the floors of Canton Fair, navigated Yiwu Market, and made the mistakes so you don't have to.
Why ChinaGuide Exists
Every year, thousands of entrepreneurs from India, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East fly to China to source products. Many of them land in the wrong city, attend the wrong fair, and trust the wrong supplier — burning through their budget before they even place their first order.
I started ChinaGuide because I saw this happen far too often. First-time buyers would show up at Canton Fair without knowing that the specific product category they needed was exhibited in Phase 3, not Phase 1. Others would fly to Guangzhou for furniture when Foshan — just 30 minutes away — is where the real manufacturing clusters are. Some would pick suppliers based on a flashy booth without running even basic verification checks.
These are not small mistakes. They cost real money, real time, and real opportunities. ChinaGuide exists to prevent them.
This site is a structured, practical guide that maps Chinese cities to their manufacturing specialties, lists trade fairs with verified dates and details, explains how wholesale markets actually work on the ground, and provides the calculators and checklists that importers need to make informed decisions.
The Person Behind ChinaGuide
Vikram Sundaram
Founder & International Trade Researcher
I'm Vikram, and I'm based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. I've spent the last six years researching international trade and writing practical guides for entrepreneurs who want to source products from China.
Over the years, I've personally visited the Canton Fair in Guangzhou multiple times across different phases. I've walked through the sprawling corridors of Yiwu International Trade City — all five districts of it. I've spent weeks in Shenzhen's electronics markets, from Huaqiangbei to the SEG Electronics Market, understanding how the supply chain works from component to finished product.
These aren't just names on a map to me. I've negotiated with suppliers, sat through factory tours, dealt with logistics headaches, and experienced the real challenges of cross-border sourcing firsthand. That experience is what shapes every guide, every city profile, and every checklist on this site.
Before ChinaGuide, I worked as a business writer covering manufacturing and trade for industry publications. That background taught me to verify facts, cite sources, and write for people who need actionable information — not fluff.
"I started ChinaGuide because I saw too many first-time buyers make expensive mistakes in China — wrong city, wrong fair, wrong supplier. This site exists to give every importer the ground-level knowledge that used to require years of trial and error."— Vikram Sundaram, Founder
Our Editorial Standards
ChinaGuide is an information resource, and accuracy is non-negotiable. Here is how we ensure the content you read is reliable and trustworthy.
Verified Trade Fair Dates
All trade fair dates and details are verified against official exhibition websites and organizer announcements. We cross-check multiple sources and update our listings when dates change. If a date is unconfirmed, we say so clearly.
Regularly Updated Market Information
Wholesale market details, city guides, and supplier information are reviewed and updated on a regular cycle. Markets evolve — new halls open, old ones close, product categories shift — and we work to keep our content current.
Clear Distinction Between Firsthand and Secondary Research
When I write from personal experience — visiting a market, attending a fair, inspecting a product — I say so explicitly. When information comes from secondary research, official data, or third-party sources, that is also clearly indicated. You always know where our information comes from.
No Paid Placements
No supplier, fair organizer, or market authority pays for placement or favorable coverage on ChinaGuide. Our guides and recommendations are based entirely on research, firsthand observation, and what we believe genuinely helps our readers. If that ever changes, we will disclose it prominently.
Found an Error?
If you spot an outdated date, incorrect detail, or anything that needs correction, please let us know. We take corrections seriously and aim to fix verified errors within 48 hours.
